ARTIM Project Space features the result of the Performance workshop “Attitudes: choreography and daily-life situation”, conducted by YARAT international resident Aurélien Lepetit.

During the workshop, the participants were introduced on live art performance, its premises and development from the end of the 60’s until today. Followed by training with a series of simple exercises, with the task to embody in groups or individually classical painting from the Azerbaijani History of Art such as Nadir Abdurahmanov “Spring in the mountains” 1970, Boyukagha Mirzazade "Girls collecting tea” 1967, Ashram Murad “The ways to the collective farm” in the 1970s’, Java Mirjavadov "Woman with mortar" 1975, Gayyur Yunus “In the plain” 1983, Igor Zhuk “In the Absheron” 1979, Khalida Safarova “At the training” 1976, oil on canvas, Kamal Ahmad “Tragedy of the East” 1985-1986 and Java Mirjavadov "Improvisation on the theme of Eastern miniatures. “Intelligents” in the 1980s’.

The concept of the final presentation is based on immateriality and movement, appearances and disappearances of the body. It aims to question the way we document daily life related to art and seeks to reconnect people with each other without any mediator or virtual reality. The presentation requires to be fully present in the moment which is why no pictures or videos are allowed taken by electronic devices.

About curator:

Aurélien Lepetit (b. 1992, France) is an Amsterdam based multidisciplinary artist and designer. His work has been exhibited in Italy, France, Argentina and The Netherlands. The artist investigates movements, gestures and attitudes from daily-life motion as a choreography. Lepetit’s work seeks the meaning of masculinity by questioning the body as a cluster to research beauty ideals, societal pressure and its impacts through medium such as video, installation and performance. Overlapping and merging Olympic sport’s movement as a dance, Fitness as a societal obsession and sub- and underground culture as a space of anthropological analysis shaping identities.
