FREESTYLE: AMERICAN JAZZ HISTORY PRESENTATION AND CONCERT BY GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

YARAT Contemporary Art Space is launching YARAT FreeStyle, an open platform for everyone who looks to engage creatively with a broad and diverse audience. YARAT FreeStyle aims to set up a scene for creative groups and individuals and is open to actors, dancers, performance artists, musicians and other cultural practitioners. Anyone with a project or an idea can reach out to us. 

On November 18, 2015 join us for a live jazz session by Gabrielle Stravelli’s band sponsored by the US Embassy. While in Azerbaijan, Gabrielle Stravelli and her group will perform various public concerts and conduct master classes for local musicians. 

All Gabrielle Stravelli performances in Azerbaijan are free and open to the public. 

Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her original songs and her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric and was called “a powerhouse of individual expression” by David Finkle of The Village Voice. Gabrielle recently performed a sold out run of solo shows at New York’s Metropolitan Room which won unanimous raves from the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Huffington Post among other publications. Last fall she toured the United States with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performing Marsalis’s Abyssinian: A Gospel Celebration.

Gabrielle Stravelli and her group will perform in Azerbaijan for the first time under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s American Music Abroad Program, which brings prominent American musicians to countries throughout the world to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of United States of America in Azerbaijan
