YARAT Contemporary Art Centre are pleased to invite you to a next meeting of the Film Club which has already turned into an informal meeting point for discussion of contemporary cinematograph. We invite you to watch a short film “The Lesson” of Rafig Aliyev, Javid Tavakkul 17 November 2015.

Khalid, a ten year old boy, is an ordinary pupil with no difference from the classmates. Pupils call him “Hippopotamus”, because he is plump and clumsy. But almost nobody notices his sharp wit and charitable heart. Khalid wishes to find a real friend, but everyone either mocks him or behaves badly, but he tolerates to everything. Nevertheless, one day, young philosopher will give life lessons to his mates and even to the adults.
“Lesson” is a real family film involving all generations with its benevolent, positive topic. This movie is the first film produced for children in Azerbaijan after “Asif, Vasif, Aghasif”.
Rafig Aliyev (born 1949, Fuzuli district, Merdinli village) theatre and cinema producer, actor.
He studied “Production” at the Department of Cultural Education of the Leningrad (current name Saint Petersburg) Cultural Institute from 1968 till 1971, then he studied at the faculty of “Musical comedy actor” of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Art.
He started to work at Azerbaijan State Theatre of Young Spectators in 1976. During his employment at the theatre Rafig Aliyev has created interesting characters:
The role “Bumbarabash” in the spectacle of “Bumbarabash”, “Aramis” in the spectacle of “Three musketeers”, “Andrey” in the “Touch”, “Hatamkhan agha” in “Musyo Jordan and Darvish Mastali Shakh”, “Karabas-Barabas” in the “Buratino”, “Dobchinskiy” in the “Controller”, “Suleyman” in the “Last night of the last year”, “Akif” in the “Well” and etc. He has also played in more than 20 films.
He has been working as a directing producer at the Azerbaijan State Theatre of Young Spectators since 1994. He has directed “Blez”, “Snow white and the seven dwarfs”, “Once in Brazil”, “Donald’s extraordinary adventures”, “Nasraddin”, “How did Sarikoynak bring the Sun”, “Indian fantasy”, “Sun-in-law from the city”, “Holiday of the crocodile Gena”, “Secret”, “Chimnaz khanim is sleeping” and etc. at the stages of the theatres. Also “Like the Lion” at “Ibrus” theatre, “Hamlet” and “Kuraj and his children” at the State Academic Drama Theatre, “Flame” at the “Qazakh State Drama Theatre”, “Like Arslan” at the “Istanbul municipal theatre” are his spectacles that were presented to audience.
He is also a teacher for many years at the faculty of “Musical theatrical actor” of the Azerbaijan University of Culture and Art at the same time with his theatre and film activities. He was awarded with the award of “Honored Actor” in 1990, and “National actor” in 2007.
Javid Tavakkul (born 1974, Tartar). Film director, screenwriter
Alumni of the “Producing” faculty of the Tatar Tourism Academy (1992-1997). He has studied film directing at International Film School established by Rustam Ibragimbekov.
He is the author of the films “Me and the City” (2003), “Crying soldier” (2003) and several clips. Javid Tavakkul is the director of the range of TV films about the film of “Javad khan” named “Javad khan – film of the film”, “The fan” (2008), “100000 AZN” (2009), “The Gift” (2009), “Dear Fellini” (2010), “Believe in the morning..” (2011), and TV series of “Turns” (2012).
Film will be presented in Azerbaijan language (with English subtitles)
