FILM CLUB: 2-DAY WOKSHOP WITH FILMMAKER ZEKE GASE

11 Oct - 12 Oct 22

YARAT Contemporary Art Space invites young filmmakers and people who wish to improve their skills in filmmaking and broaden their understanding of cinematography to attend a 2-day workshop by a New-York based filmmaker Zeke Gase.

Zeke Gase, born in Baku, Azerbaijan, is a filmmaker living and working in New York. After getting his Bachelor's Degree in Film Production from Brooklyn College, Zeke directed various self-produced short films as well as started building a career in video editing and teaching film to American youth. He currently holds a full-time job as a video editor, but he always works on writing his next film. Zeke has spent his film teaching career at a company called Manhattan Youth. His students' films have gone to the Tribeca Film Festival, part of Manhattan Youth's Best Screening.

Workshop program:

Day 1: Scriptwriting session

We will go over what stories are, what they mean, and why we tell stories. Then we will cover story structure and important elements of screenwriting. We will watch some short films and break them down. We will break into groups and practice writing a story.

Day 2: Film criticism

During the second session, we will break down and analyze “The Exorcist” (1973).

“The Exorcist” is a genre film directed by William Friedkin at the peak of the New Hollywood era. There have been so many remakes, parodies, and deconstructions of the picture, yet The Exorcist is still relevant. To this day, it is the only film in the horror genre to be nominated for Best Picture at Academy Awards.
