YARAT Film Club has prepared a lovely spring surprise for you!
We brought together 7 short stories told by young directors from all over the world.
Some of those directors will be available on the night of the screening and will answer your questions via Skype! Others have prepared lovely videos, especially for their fans in Baku!
1. Varde, (Norway, 2009) / dir. Hanne Larsen
Cairn is a dark film on adolescence in which the main character Johan (11) faces a moral dilemma after having started playing a seemingly innocent prank. The story unfolds on a l level in the turbulent transition between childhood and adulthood.
2. The Mirror (France, 2015) / dir. Ramon and Pedro (antoine tinguely et laurent fauchère)
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? “Le Miroir” shows us the evolution of life, conveying each step from child to adolescent, adolescent to adult and finally adult to elderly. The mirror becomes a portal for the audience as we intrude on the life of “everyman”. The mirror gives us a glimpse of the oscillating feelings of life, the man’s innocence, his romance, his anger, and his fragility. The short is “reflection” on the preciousness and finality of life and age.
3. Speed dating (USA) / dir. Meghan Artes
Desperate to find the man of her dreams, sweet and plain Ava tries a last ditch effort, speed dating. But the absurd cast of characters she encounters makes her wonder if being single is not so bad after all.
4. Casting (Russia, 2013) / dir. Alina Polichuk
An aspiring actor Valentin is lucky to be invited to the casting that can help him to land a role in a serious project. It’s one of those productions that can make you famous overnight. The director and the cameraman are putting Valentin to a serious test to make him reveal his creative potential. The young man is ready to do anything to pass… or is he not?
5. Imagine (UK, 2008) / dir. Carl Mason
A Touching Short Film About a Rare & Terrifying Disease, Made By a 17 Year Old Director
6. The Fridge (Russia, 2013) / dir. Maxim Kulagin
Maxim is very excited about going to London, and finally he’s been issued a visa for UK.
But a simple request from his mom who asks him to get rid of the old refrigerator, can ruin his dreams.
7. Lila (Argentina, 2014) / dir. Carlos Lascano
