ARTIM LAB: NEUROIMAGING ONE DAY GROUP EXHIBITION

17 May 18

YARAT Contemporary Art Space is pleased to announce the 24hrs exhibition NEUROIMAGING by ARTIM Lab 2018 participants Yunis Novruz, Gunay Aliyeva, Shalala Salamzadeh, Nigar Tahmazova, Sultan Babazade, Masuma Hajiyeva, Farid Rzayev, Aytac Hafizova, Tarana Guliyeva and Nazrin Musayeva.

ARTIM PROJECT Space features the final result of a workshop conducted by the neuroscientist Nurana Kazimova to ARTIM Lab participants. Neuroimaging literally describes the process through which scientists make scans of the human brain to image the structure and the function of the nervous system. In the exhibition, however, the young artists do not approach the brain in a scientific way but “image” it through a creative lens. Interestingly enough, scientists have not been able to locate creativity until today. Our understanding of brain structure and creativity is still relatively nascent. Existing theories about uninhibited nature of creativity demonstrate the brain as an object of study of ineffable quality.

The human brain is considered to be the most complex device in the known universe. Its hundred billion neurons are connected via trillions of synapses. The connection between the brain and the rest of the body is provided by the nervous system with its unique importance: joints, kidneys and even hearts can be bypassed or replaced without altering a person in fundamental ways, but the essence of a person is lost when the activity of the nervous system ceases. Although the historical foundations of neuroscience were established by many people in many generations, research into brain and behaviour is relatively new and has emerged as a clear and distinct discipline in the last thirty years, becoming one of the fastest-growing areas of modern biology.

Neuroscience is multidisciplinary and contributions are generated in many fields such as biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, neurology, physiology, anatomy, psychology and clinical medicine.

Nurana Kazimova is a specialist in neuropsychology. Nurana Kazimova is the head of the ZIRVA Psychology Center. She graduated from the Faculty of Medical Psychology of the Ukrainian Regional Management Academy in 2012. Later she continued her education in Clinical Psychology at Boğaziçi University in Turkey in between 2013-2015. Then she won a Doctoral Degree in Neurology in Uskudar University in 2017. Nurana Kazimova is a member of the Turkish-American Neuropsychiatric Association. She is the author of 13 scientific articles.
