TRAVELLING EXHIBITION: STARRY SKIES GROUP EXHIBITION

29 Nov - 08 Feb 19

YARAT Contemporary Art Space presents Starry Skies travelling exhibition in Shamkir.

Starry Skies will present exposition featuring works by leading contemporary artists of Azerbaijan such as Aida Mahmudova, Faig Ahmed and Farid Rasulov

Keynote idea of the exhibition reflects on updated traditions and different values. The artists touch on visual art products and contextually new subjects, while changing and breaking “accepted cannons” of the traditional art. Scope of subjects covers traditions, heritage, globalization, urbanization, cultural revolution, social and public aspects. Exhibited works are mostly inspired from keen interest in synthesis and experimentation. However, these works invite the audience to engage in interactivity.

Faig Ahmed presents the art of carpet weaving which has existed for many centuries, in a completely new interpretation, while re-discovering and introducing carpet weaving aesthetics into contemporary culture. He divides carpet weaving process into different parts, changes ordinary, two-dimensional flat appearance of carpet and transforms them into contemporary three-dimensional pieces.

Traditions-specific subject is continued by Farid Rasulov’s Falling Starand Birdworks from Shebekeseries. Farid presents monumental-decorative architecture artwork featuring carpet ornaments, synthesizing two different directions. As a result, zoomed and air-suspended art objects with carpet ornaments are born.

Spaces series by Aida Mahmudova reflects observations of the artist. Her observations and studies highlight different moments as geographical locations, urbanization and urban expansion. Bird’s eye views are different in accordance with landscapes, characters and moods.

Within the framework of Starry Skies exhibition artists and participants of YARAT Residency Program Aurélien Lepetit, Evy Jokhova, Guiditta Vendrame and Emil Majnun will conduct master classes, and panel discussion will be held.
