ARTIMLAB: EXPERIENCE. THINKING. CONCLUSION GROUP EXHIBITION

07 Mar - 05 Apr 19

YARAT Contemporary Art Space presents final exhibition of ARTIMLab Project entitled Experience. Thinking. Conclusion.

During one-year ARTIM Lab education programme the artists had an opportunity to experiment with different themes and techniques, gain practical experience through workshops, master classes and lectures. Final exhibition will include the results of research discussed on the final works of artists, as well as emigration and globalization, personal experience, historical research and analytical approaches, while bringing together various installations by Gunay Aliyeva, Roman Gojayev, Yunis Novruzov, Shalala Salamzade and Sofiya Ahadova.

In her site specific poetic installation entitled “Don’t turn a blind eye. Don’t make your own way. You will get lost” Gunay Aliyevashares her own principles of life and thoughts on today. Young and talented artist and researcher literally seeks to characterize her way through ARTIM Lab Project and describe her autobiography with lines of her hands using these three sentences.

Roman Gojayev’s performance entitled non-existence makes me exist is inspired from his personal experience. The artist tries to show his position which is surrounded by the idea of a society in which endless stereotypes, mental and physical values dominate. The installation is based on the artist’s childhood imagination and adult age experience.

“Xenophobia Map” by Sofia Ahadovafocuses on issues such as emigration and globalization, which play an important role in volatile and rapid changingworld map, while emphasizingthe ideas of humanism.

“DIV”(“Digital Intelligent Void”) installation by Shalala Salamzadeplays deals with the contradicting ideas of chaos and harmony. The artist examines the history of mankind starting from the Digital Age, while emphasizing careless, ordinary lifeof the people, without reflecting on anything, before all the harsh changes in system, critical situations, and wars took place.

For many years, Yunis Novruzovstudied history, appointment and etymology of Baku Maiden Tower and established relationship between the monument and ancient musical instrument balaban. He came to this conclusion after he has divided into letters the petroglyphs found in Nasırvaz village (Nakhchivan). Yunis seeks to visually convey this analogy through kinetic installation in order to show ancient history of both elements in Azerbaijani culture.

During the opening ceremony, world-renowned artist Faig Ahmedwho will participate as independent expert, along with curator and artist Sabina Shikhlinskayaas jurywill select the winner of the project. The winner will be given an opportunity for 6-month Residency Programme hosted by YARAT in 2019.

During the exhibition various master classes and lectures will be held by the participants.
