ARTIM LAB: OTHER THINGS TO TALK ABOUT 1 DAY STUDIO EXHIBITION

17 Jan 20

YARAT Contemporary Art Space features 1 day studio exhibition entitled "Other Things to Talk About" within the framework of ARTIM Lab project.

The point of departure for the 3rd studio exhibition consisted of a three-month intensive research. The artists collected data, interviews, literature, stories, and media reports to deal with the various fields of their personal interest. The exhibition visually features the transformed and processed investigations, previously developed and discussed in the group. Each work encourages to talk about "other things" to take a new, multilayered perspective on the topic approached.

Ahmad Nabiyev devoted the protagonist of his research to Azerbaijani millionaire M. Asadullayev’s daughter, known as Banin – Umm Al-Banu Asadullayeva, who lived a life of an immigrant in Paris. The artist gathered information about Banin’s life and oeuvre, as well as, the period’s day-to-day lifestyle and traditions based on a memorial collection of her.

Murad Akbarli, who consider the subject of “Metamorphosis” close to his individuality, highlights the transformations taken place both in himself and in society through the installation, which turned out to be the autobiographical experiment.

Ruslan Abbasov dedicated his installation to the investigation of the implemented support of worldwide famous companies and brands to the defense industry.

Aghababa Baghirov’s sound installation is the product of the social investigation. The work discusses the existing traditions, taboos and social rules in Azerbaijan. Basing itself on actual events, the artist shares his own opinions on them by means of locally characterized symbols.

Rena Bashirova’s research subject explores the common symbol of the “tree of life” which appears on Scandinavian mythology and Zoroastrian religion, reflecting its etymology and the embodiment, as well as the parallels between these two cultures.

Umay Abdullayeva associates the subject of her work to the various types of violence in Azerbaijan. She focuses on recent violence against animals to explain the psychological aspects of the subject. According to the artist, due to the psychological state of young / teenagers who may harm the animal, they may also commit murder in the future.

Applying her research to the magical rituals and fetishes, which exists in a variety of cultures since the ancient times, Nurseli Mammadli signifies those fetishes transforming into the folklore in Azerbaijan and becoming the integral part of life today.

For the studio presentation, Gunel Akhundlu created a psychedelic film describing the connection between dreams and reality. The only question that poses to the audience is to investigate what the pure reality is.

The studio presentation of ARTIM Lab participants will be on view to the public in YARAT Studios for 1 day.
