ART DEBATE: COMMERCE IN THE ARTS

YARAT Contemporary Art Space is launching the new project – ART-debate! ART-debate is a discourse project where experts in the field introduce and thoroughly examine thought-provoking questions of the art agenda.

The first discourse of the project: “Commerce in the Arts: the value of art or valuable art?”

A high price is not always an indicator of quality, but as the physical value of an artwork rises, so does the interest and demand of society for it. Some experts claim that commercial success has contributed to the prominence and recognition of artistic talent, while on the other hand, it is thought that the artist's talent has become a victim of commerce and that artists are driven to create works only for the sake of income. How do the current trends in the art market of Azerbaijan affect the formation of artists? This and other related questions will be covered during the debate.
