YARAT presents to the “Decolonial Activism in International Art” lecture by Afsana Tahirova!

In this lecture, we will explore how artists from different countries around the world represent their cultures from a ‘decolonial' perspective, how they express in their artworks that the art of those countries is still influenced by colonialism and other related issues.

Afsana Tahirova is an independent researcher. She studied in Azerbaijan, Great Britain, and Australia. She examines the theme of individual and collective identity, the impact of colonialism on identity, and the role of traumas passed down from generation to generation in the formation of identity. She also explores art as a means of expressing identity.
