OVERVIEW

ARTIST STATEMENT

My art practice centers around processes of transformation, inverting realities, investigating histories, death and dreams. When producing works I search for ways to understand the complexity of power and to question that which appears natural, but is in fact a construction.
I see history as a map of an infinite circle of destruction and resurrection. Cities and their buildings, towers and factories are torn down sooner or later. Dead unuseful objects and tools belonging to another time space remain. Places where dramatic events have occurred are often completely remodelled in an attempt to erase traces of tragedy or unwanted ideology. Why do we choose to render certain things visible and other not? Nothing ever dies, it simply constantly transforms because of ever-changing historical contexts and continuum's.
In my performances I have worked a lot with the power of the voice. Screaming, singing, talking and whispering. A voice can wake us up, momentarily shake the pillars of the constructions on which we stand. Make a crack and thereby perhaps involuntarily open a new space.
