YARAT presents Florentijn Hofman Rubber Duck Project

15 Sep - 20 Sep 13

Baku Seaside Boulevard

YARAT Contemporary Art Space proudly present Rubber Duck by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, which will be the last project of Participate! Baku Public Art Festival 2013

Florentijn Hofman is going to contribute friskiness and a tinge of humour to Participate! with his twelve-metre high inflatable rubber duck. An enormous inflatable toy full of childhood memories will be presented to the audience, which can easily evoke a varied response form visitors, irrespective of their background and life experience. As the artist says, "the artwork contains something personal yet at the same time something universal that might unblock cultural, linguistic and age barriers". An unexpected meeting with the rubber duck may astonish and overjoy the audience and fundamentally change our contemporary urban art perceptions.

The rubber duck will be released from the Baku Boulevard and is expected to sail the coast of Baku Bay for a month while Boulevard visitors may seize the opportunity of encountering this childhood ambassador.

Giantic toys created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman strive to convey all aspects of childhood-related emotions and feelings in the life of adults. Hofman is longing to match the sudden effect against his sarcastic statements about the "unbearable moroseness of museum and gallery art as well as any other traditional methods of art presentation...."

Other art pieces by Florentijn Hofman used to prowl the oceans and became top cultural icons in major capitals of the world. The artist demonstrated his works in Sydney (2013), Osaka (2009), Sao-Paolo (2008) and Oakland (2011).
