YARAT Contemporary Art Space presents an artist talk with actor, director and musician Stephen Mottram with screen excerpts of his videos at 19:00 on 8th November at YAY Gallery.

Stephen Mottram’s visit to Baku is hosted by the British Council Azerbaijan, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During his visit Stephen will present the Puppet Theatre Performance called “In Suspension” on 10 November at 14.00 and 18.00 at the Theatre of Young Spectators.

Stephen Mottram has performed in more than fortycountries worldwide. Using string puppets, automata and specially composed electroacoustic music, the majority of Stephen’s work is directed at adult audiences and is without text.

His best known shows are The Seed Carriers, The Seas of Organillo and In Suspension. In addition to his stage work, Stephen regularly teaches at a number of performing arts colleges, including L’institut International de la Marionnette in Charleville Mézières, France and Accademia MAAFin Pinerolo, Italy.

As a teacher, Stephen’s particular interest is the perception of movement and how audiences read movement data from the stage. As well as teaching courses in puppet movement and manipulation, he also leads workshops in the design and construction of marionettes. The company is based in Oxford, UK.
