ARTIM TALK: LESLIE JOHNSON AND JOSEFINA POSCH

28 Jun 19

YARAT Contemporary Art Space is pleased to announce public talk of Swedish/American artists Leslie Johnson and Josefina Posch in ARTIM Project Space.

Leslie Johnson and Josefina Posch will present their practices and speak about their first collaborative project “The Metamorphosis of Power” – a situation specific artwork in Gori and Tbilisi part of the 3rd Tbilisi Triennial in Georgia (2018). The artists revived the old Electric Trolley Bus Transformer Station in Gori as a sculpture referencing historical paths of trade and new technologies to initiate processes of transformation and change for the community. The building becomes a sculptural spectacle of shadow and light expressing the transformation of the ancient silk route to the solar route and utilizing wind and solar power to illuminate the sculpture.

Event will take place with the support of IASPIS – The Swedish Arts Grants Committee´s International Program for Visual and Applied Arts and Langmanska Cultural Foundation.

Leslie Johnson (Sweden/USA) shares experiences of diverse questions and situations, in text and visual art, through a wide constellation of material, techniques and methods: from commissioned public sculpture or anonymous intervention to postcards. Humor is central to her strategy. Living in Sweden since 1989, she also curates and produces thematic exhibitions most recently at Galleri Box, Gothenburg concerning the real estate market. She is a board member of Bohuslan (KKV) Collective Workshop, and a Professor and researcher with the University of Gothenburg.

Josefina Posch is an artist that works in the expanded field of sculpture. Her situation-specific practice and research address environmental and sustainability concerns through materiality explorations and exists in the borderline between sculpture, new media and social engaged work. Josefina Posch is active as curator, activist and lecturer at Valand Academy University of Gothenburg, founder of Snowball Cultural Productions and a member of the Swedish Sculptors´ Association.
