FILM CLUB: KON-TIKI BY JOAQUIM RONNING AND ESPEN SANDBERG

YARAT Film Club presents the film “Kon-Tiki” by Joaquim Ronning and Espen Sandberg. The screening is organized with the support of The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Baku.

“Across the Ocean in Search of Truth” - under this slogan the movie «Kon-Tiki» was presented to the audience by famous directors Joaquim Ronning and Espen Sandberg in 2012. Kon-Tiki is a historical adventure film based on real stories. It is dedicated to the famous Norwegian traveler Tour Heyerdahl, whose expedition went down in history as a real feat. This trip, that he made in 1947 on the waters of the Pacific Ocean, brought him worldwide fame. İn addition, for this he used only a small raft called “Kon-Tiki”, made of 9 balsa trees. The raft was named after the sun god of Incas, Viracocha, and "Kon-Tiki" is the old name of this god.

The film illustrates the origin of the idea, preparation and events during the trip. Heyerdahl crossed the Pacific Ocean together with a crew of 5 people to prove that South Americans could cross the ocean in pre-Columbian times and settle on the Polynesian islands. In this journey, the heroes were faced with various dangers: huge whales, fighting bloodthirsty sharks, thunderstorm storms - this is not the whole list of what they had to face.

The film will be shown in English with Russian subtitles.
