Writer, poet and artist @leyli_salayeva, poet and screenwriter Ulviya Akhundova (@bubliku) will hold a live discussion entitled “Poets in Isolation”.

Leyli Salayeva is a writer and performance poet from Baku, Azerbaijan. She writes poems, articles and short stories predominantly in English and studies the various facets of female soul. Leyli has authored an award-winning children’s book Dilber and Her Spoonful Journey, two poetry books in English – Twelve Thirteen (2014) and Youtopia (2016) and one poetry book in Russian – Anabioz (2018). Youtopia received Honorable Mention at 2016 London Book Festival. Her poems and articles have been published in the numerous literature journals in UK, Poland, Canada and USA. She has also participated in collaborative art projects with other artists. Leyli is a member of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers and a member of the Poetry Society in the United Kingdom.


Ulvia Akhundova is a script-writer, poet, translator. She graduated from Paris I University (Panthéon – Sorbonne) with a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. Her master’s thesis was exploring security issues in the South Caucasus. Ulvia currently works as the Head of Public Programs at YARAT Contemporary Art Space, Baku, where she oversees projects related to music, literature, theatre and cinematography. She has over 7 years experience working in the arts and reaching out to different audiences. Ulvia Akhundova translated from French to Russian “Les Jours Caucasiens” and “Les Jours Parisiens” (Caucasian Days/ Parisian Days), the most acclaimed books Banine (pen name of Umm-El-Banu Asadullayeva, the first female novelist of Azerbaijani descent. The translation was published by Azer Neshr Publishing House in 2005, the same year as Ulvia started working as a personal assistant to Rustam Ibragimbekov, writer and dramatist, the chair of the Cinematographers' Union of Azerbaijan and director of the Ibrus Theatre. Never-ending process of learning continued at the International Film School in Baku, where Ulvia studied script-writing and film directing between 2008-2010. In 2016, Ulvia released Breathe, her first collection of short stories and poems.
